I am the stupidest kid alive

THe problem with my car all along has been with the spark plugs.

I have vette aluminum heads on my motor officially making it a corvette motor. However, i was still buying firebird sparkplugs for the iron heads!

I just bought some ac delcos and not only are the part numbers different, but the threaded area of the plug is a half inch longer!!!

So my plugs have been sparking inside the spark plug hole, not even close to the chambers!

I am wicked stupid!

I hate it when a little detail like that is holding you back from your engine's full potential.

That, and the vette plugs are gasketed plugs. Iron head plugs are tapered seat style. Could have been losing a bit of compression too.

Easy to do. . . at least you figured it out. Couple of tips: use antiseize on the spark plug threads and only R&R the plugs when the engine is cold.

The Autolite #3926 is stock Corvette plug, once you get a cam in it you may want to drop down to an Autolite #3924 plug.

Just curious, how was the car running with those plugs (before)? Would it run and not have any power or what??

dont feel so bad, I did the same thing....bought new AFR 195s and put a new set of accel shorty plugs that I had been running before, I couldnt figure out why the heads sucked.

I figured it out one day when i happened to thread an old plug into some Brodix Track 1s i had laying around. When I turned over the head, I couldnt even see the electrode!!!

the car would idle, and rev, but had wicked bad misfires. Barely ran. I replaced everything from vacuum lines to well anything you can think of. This is a 4 month diagnosis and it comes to spark plugs can't believe it. It runs perfect. Burns a lil oil, but thats cuz the rings haven't seated yet. I can finally start to drive it, just in time for senior year at high school.

ps i say wicked a lot.

just like to say thanks to everyone who put up with my posts and my ravings, thank you all this board kicks

Brockton, near Mansfield? I was doing a tour of the junk yards there in the summer.

Sorry to go off topic.

Wish I could say I got stuff that cheap, try $100 for a pull down motor... But I guess the old rule of supply and demand was kicking,,, he had one, I needed one..
