i cant figure this out...im over my head...help
ok this is my delma. i bought an 84 S-10 with an 88 firebird engine, wiring harness, computer and transmission swaped into them. when the guy did the swap he didnt wire up the ALDL conncetor so i cant scan the truck for codes. he also didnt hook up the oil pressure switch for my fuel pump.
ok now the problem. last thursday i tried to start my truck and it woulnt start. when i start it i let the pump prime for the 2 seconds then i start. i turned the key and my pump primed for about a second then i heard click. i was like hummm this isnt good. so i got out poped the hood and i tried jumping the connector for my oil pressure switch. now when i do this my fuel pump should go on....it didnt. so i left it there (at work) over night and i was going to come back the next day and fix it. i get there the next day and fir giggles and grins i tried strting it. fired right up. drove it home no problem. the next morning i tried to start it and nothing happened again. this time my relay was clicking on and off really fast. didnt stop till i truned off the key. so i though it was a bad relay.
i bought a new relay and that did nothing.
thus bringin me to my next problem. there is an inline fuse some where in the circut that i cant find. i know it's under my dash i just cant find it. the fuse is for my fuel pump and fuel system. i know it's not my fuel pump cause when i put power directly to it the pump turns on the pump is only 6 months old too. when i apply power directly to the relay i hear the relay clicks on. i tried to just hooking up a switch fromy my fuel pump to something that comes on with my ignition on. now when i turn the key the fuel pump comes on. the truck will start for like maybe a half a second then die. i have to throttle responce either....when i step on the gas for that hlf second nothing happens.
im out of ideas some one please help me. what should i do now. where should i start.

Given the no-start is an intermittent problem, likely either a loose connector pin or a dirty/loose ground. The grounds you want to check are bolted to the rear of both heads, I'd remove them, clean them and the surface they seat against, and install good and snug.
The no throttle response problem could be several things, none of which are easy to test without a working check engine light and ALDL connector. You can start with an easy one, the ignition timing. There's a procedure in the Tech Articles section on how to disconnect the Electronic Spark Timing circuit and use a timing light to verify the initial advance...if it's off even by a few degrees, it shows up usually as poor throttle response.
If none of these helps, buy a Helms manual for '88 Firebird and start tracing wires. www.helminc.com
And knock off the "damn it" like you're demanding a response, it cheeses people off...

[ i am having the same problem,if you find out any thing let us know. i am suspecting a bad ecm or ignition conrol module in the distributor. i have not had time or cash to check these out. if i figure it out i'll let you know.
int no start
from what you said it sounds like an eletrical problem with a power feed.relay usually only go nuts like that with low power or bad connection some where feeding them.id follow the fue pump wire and see where its hooked into.i kinda wonder if it isnt a igniton switch going bad or somehtign alongs those lines.i it is a power supply problem an its jumping voltage to the ecm like that it may have serios drivability problems.id start checking basics powers and grounds maybe even wiggle the power wires with dvom hooked up fo cont. to check for broken wires.le us know what you find.eric

i have a helm service manual for the car. it states for this problem to check for power at the fuel injectors with a test light which i do have. then unplug the mass air flow sensor. if the car runs it is a bad maf (did not help mine). check to see if your spark plugs are fouled(mine are not)if they are you could have a bad egr. if all checks out good check the throttle position switch, unplug if it starts replace tps. if still nothing unplug esc connector and try to start if it starts replace ignition control module. if none of this works replace ecm. i have found reman ecms on carparts.com from 70.00 on up. or goto your local junk yard tou might get lucky. thats all i've got for now.
