'82-'86 uses multiple belts.
'87 is a bastard system that uses v-belts and a ribbed belt too.
'88-'92 is serpentine.
The alternator just needs to match the belt system.
The distributor can come from any TPI car. Pre '88 cars use a 4 wire distributor harness and a coil mounted on the top of the distributor. Later cars use a 7-pin connector and a remote coil. There is plenty of info on this board about swapping from the 4-pin to the 7-pin. I'd use the later distributor because it is a smaller cap, and easier to work on.

86 had the V-belt and Serp belts.
V-belt for the smog, A/C, and Power Steering.
Serp for the Alt, Crank, and Waterpump.
I used my 86 alt when I went to a 90-92 TPI setup. I also went with a small cap distributor, MSD 6A, and a Blaster 3 coil.

You'd think I'd know that being as how I HAVE an '86! I swapped all that garbage out for a serpentine setup though, so I guess my mind doesn't want to remember the horrors of the multi-belt setup.
'88 was the first year for the serp setup. '86 and '87 are both the bastard half and half deal.

I actually like the half and half deal, made deleting accessories much easier.
I am trying to delete the A/C and smog on my 88 and don't know which way to choose.
Oh, here are a before and after pic of my swap,

The TPI gives the engine a very modern look.

Well, for a system where you don't want to run everything then it is simpler. It sure made ditching the smog pump easy.
I run everything with my serp setup (AC, PS, alt, wp). I gutted my smog pump and run it as an idler pulley so I can still use the stock belt.
GM has a kit out now for a serp conversion. It is available with or without the AC compressor. I'd look into it. It probably can show you how to delete the AC and smog simply.

Also available is the Serp setup off of a chevy pickup. They came stock without the Air Pump, I believe it was around mid 90's.
well looks like i want to get the 86-87 serp setup.. i am doing this in an S10 V8 swap, and my truck has no smog pump, no P/S, no A/C... all i have its alt, water pump, and crank, but my question on the alt is what years will work because isn't the connector different?
the TPI setup i bought is for an 88, so as far as the dist. it has to be from an 88-up right? for the 7 pin connector...

The pickup brackets won't work with TPI. They have a cross brace right where the intake duct would go.
i should also mention that i need to get some silicone couplings or something because the TPI MAF sensor is smaller in diameter than the LT1 MAF sensor, but i know where to find the couplings

I do hope your wrong cause I've already got a set of the pickup brackets. If I get time tomorrow I may get the students to help test fit them so I know what I'm up against. Also I may be able to modify the brackets.

Oh, that's right I forgot it was an S-10 swap. I still don't know if it will work though. You may be able to build a new cross brace that has been clearanced for the air filter. To the best of my knowledge this setup won't work stock.
Also, putting the air cleaner right on the TB isn't that great of an idea, because then you have to suck hot underhood air, instead of cool outside air. I'd build an intake pipe to draw air from inside a fender.
