Noisy Fuel Pump
Just got the IROC a few months ago and everything was kosher. Then, last week, I noticed that the FP after awhile would make a swooshing noise like a jet going by, like a sloshing sound. The sound would pick up as RPMs were raised. Then, yesterday, she stalled on me at a stop light. The battery voltage is ok most of the time, but it would lower to like 10 or so with the sloshing FP. Today, I went to go for a drive and the thing is making a very loud humming, but it starts ok.
Now to the question: This is a fuel pump problem, no doubt. Could the fuel filter also affect the output enough to cause it to die? Car is 100% stock and has 102,000 miles.Anyone else have this problem or can point me in the right direction if I'm off?
(I want a Walbro anyways
)

) My car started to do that and a few days later it died. I replaced the fuel pump but have had problems with vapor lock ever since. Since I have checked and replaced all the valves and filters I am going to take the parts store guys advice and remove the pulsator and replace it with rubber fuel line. The Walbro pump is said to be a very good pump just be sure to matience everything while the pump is out. Also since it is making noise I would suggest removing your pulsator while it is out, they just leak and cause problems down the road. Good luck :rock on:

Still have the problem. Replaced the Charcoal canister, tank purge valve, charcoal canister purge valve (in-line w/ vacuum hose coming out of it), gas cap, and added an adjustable regulator and regulator assembly (stuff on inside of regulator) set at 50 psi w/ vacuum line removed. It still does the same thing, mainly when I drive for any long distance of time, usually more than an hour or so. The pump just gets noisier. Pressure still seems good, and I am out of ideas. Please, someone help me figure what on earth it could be.!!!!!! Should I get a hotwire kit for it from Racetronix, maybe?
