ECM code 44 question
Hi Guys,
Been having alot of fun working on the 88 IROC 305 TPI I bought recently. After quite a few sensor problems have been fixed (including the dreaded MAF) I seem to still be getting a code 44 from the ecm. I changed the o2 sensor and still get it.
The symptom is when the car has been running for a while and I'm stopped at a light or from a stop putting the car in reverse the engine will stutter like its going to stall and then it will go back to normal idle or it will stall. The check engine light will go on in either case.
After that when I start driving it will go off but will return after I'm stopped at a light..ect.
I got rid of codes 33 and 36 with the new MAF and this seems to be (hopefully) the last one.
Any suggestions????
Thanx,
Ricky

Ok, this code can be tricky. First thing to do is to find yourself a digital volt meter. Go buy one at rat shaq if you don't already have one. Trust me, it's $20 well spent. Go to the ecm and backprobe to get a voltage at terminal D7 with the engine at temp and around 1,200rpm. Watch this for a while. If your lucky, the voltage should stay at or near 0 the entire time. If that is the case, you have a short to ground in this purple wire which is the only wire connected to the 02 sensor. Find the short, fix it, clear your codes, and the problem should be solved. If he voltage isn't 0 but remains below 0.35 volts the entire time, you have a lot more trouble shooting to do. Report back with your findings or if you need me to elaborate on anything.

Hey Guys,
Thanx for the input. I'm gonna try these ideas either tomorrow or Tuesday and I'll let you know how I'm making out.
Thanx again,
Ricky
