"pulsator damper" important or not?
My application wouldn't allow me to run the stock camaro sending unit for TPI.
Looking in the Service Manual, this piece (pulsator damper) is specifically mentioned, and is shown as part of the sender as far as I can tell.
Any idea if this is for anything other than noise reduction?
I picked this up from the wrecking yard. I didn't know it had that little "bulb" on it until I started to remove it. Application I believe was something like an Olds or Pontiac with a 3.1L.
Only idea anyone has put forth is that it is sort of an "air hammer" (think thats what he called it) that serves to dampen pressure spikes or something like that. Apparently used in plumbing sometimes.
If the pulsator damper serves another purpose besides noise reduction, I'd like to hear it.
Thanks!

That is basically what it is used for, a noise reducer. A lot of people replace it with a short rubber hose when they change fuel pumps because it sometimes has a tendency to fail by coming loose at times and giving the impression that the pump is going bad.
