L98 Rebuild
I bought a 87 L98 Iroc over the weekend that will need a rebuild in the fall/winter. I am about to start buying some of the parts I will need but thought I should ask for advice from the pros
Alright, my plans are as follows,
- Vortec Heads
- TPI intake base for Vortec Heads
- LT4 Hotcam kit (w/1.6 roller rockers)
- Basic rebuild kits with new seals and such
- Hooker 2055 coated Headers
- High Flow Cat
- New Flowmaster Cat-Back
How does this look? Anyone have as guess for power numbers? I will upgrade the plenum/runners before next spring but my wife will be shell shocked if I do it all at once. Also before next spring, I plan on a new 2400 stall converter and have the rearend rebuilt.
If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to post them as I would rather hear what you guys have to say before forking out the money.
Thanks in advance.

Your exhaust system will be fine. Make sure the Y connector is upgraded on your exhaust. Your biggest restriction is going to be the stock runners. This is what will hold up the power for the time being.
You have the makings of maybe a 375 HP engine but not yet. You will need to upgrade the runners and I would have the intake extrude honed down the road. This will let you pick up 25 CFM which will help the Vortec heads reach their potential along with the mandatory good flowing runners.
Be sure to modify the plenum and eventually get a 52MM throttle body. A cold air kit will help also. Allen
