383 stroker w/TPI in a 4x4?
Hi, New guy here. Not sure this is the right place to post but....
I was browsing though and saw a few other 383 posts.
I have a Dart head 383 in a 4x4. In the garage, ready to install, I have a stock intake, plenum, (both very mildly ported) runners, throttle body and 24lb injectors with speed density system. My question is: Do you think this setup can work well? I'm not too concerned with peak HP, this being a truck I want all the torque I can get, as low as I can get it! I'm sure a .BIN modification is inevitable, but I'm not sure where to start.
Any advice or opinions are welcome.

The stock tpi on a 383 is perfect for what you want to do with it. I ran the stock intake on mine and went mid-high 13's. Run a decent rear gear and enjoy. What cam is in there?

Have heard it stated a few times: "tpi is the best truck engine GM ever produced" so I think it would be a torq monster and great for a 4x4.

383 4x4
the tpi set up is great off the line torque monster perfect for your 4x4 needs . You will have all the extra umphhhh you need to pull or yank other stuck trucks out with.
I also have a 98 Z-71 extcab that I off road and terrorize the local beaches with. When ever my 350 go's I am going 383 or 396 as well.
There is a company called Painless Wiring they sale custom fit wiring harnesses for motor swaps they take all the guess work out and you just plug and play.
By the way fully port your intake and plenum as wide as you can and match the intake to your heads while they are out you will be happy you did there alot of lost power choking the zhit out of that motor right there.

Thanks for the input and advice! Nice to know I'm going the right direction at least!
My next question has to do with the VSS for a '7730 ECM. My understanding is that the ECM needs input from this to function properly. I may have stalling problems and such otherwise. My questions is: Where does it go on a 4X4?
Would it go on the Transfer case ouput shaft to read even in low range, or on the transfer-case input shaft so the ECM doesn't see a funny signal?? My thought is that on the output shaft is fine since I have a 4-speed manual and shifting and converter lockup is not a concern. Cruise control would be a nice luxury though! Thanks for your help! I'm sure I'll have loads of other questions!
