i am planning on on tpi swap from carb, i have a 86 ta that has everything needed for this but today i was pulling ecm out and found a yellow box labeled buffer attached to the ecm do i need this for the swap? and how do i tell if it is speed density. and my car doent have a furl pump in the tank can a after market puimp be used.

Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: 3.27 9-bolt
Easiest way to tell if the ECM is SD is it will have three connector plugs, MAF ones only have two. Also there should be a part number on it somewhere that ends in 730, MAF's end in 165.

And yes, you can use an aftermarket fuel pump.

Not sure about the buffer box.........
