noobie head questions
noobie head questions
Been looking for head/cam options for the 305 that I'm putting in my truck, and had a few noobish questions. First, I was looking at the World Products S/R Torquers. What else will I need as far as springs, valves, etc? Are they on there or are they more specific to which cam I choose? Second question, at summit they list at 380$, is that for 1 head or a pair?
Last question, what kind of cam specs would I want to look for? I planned on calling around the different manufacturers and getting their recommendations, and did some searching on here, but all I came up with was stay around 114 LSA and as much lift as I can afford? My application is going to be a 4x4 so as much low end torque as I can get is what I'm looking for.
Thanks,
Jeff

The S/R torquers list for for $369-379ea. Depending on the year. If you have a good set of stock TPI heads it might be better to get them cleaned up at the machine shop. 3 angle valve job and the intakes enlarged to 1.94. You can clean up the bowl and runner area too.
As for the cam, you are going to have to ask someone else. You might need to add if you are using the TPI or not, and what you are doing for a chip.
Hope this helps.

Unfortunately the heads I have, I've been told, are crap. They came off a '78 something. The casting number is 376450. I pulled the engine out of an '86 trans am I used to own, and yes it is TPI.
The biggest thing I'm looking for is low end torque, not overall tq/hp, as I'm not going to be racing much. But from what I've read, alot of the goodies tend to raise the upper-end power, decreasing the low. As far as a chip goes, I'll be burning my own.
I always wanted to when I had the T/A, but always had something else waiting be actually fixed and lack of funds. But things have changed, the T/A got impounded because I let it sit to long at my apartment and they towed it while I was gone for 4th of july weekend. So I got it out of impound, and pulled the engine and tranny and associated stuff I'm going to need to put it in the S-10, and sent her out the door. Hehe, It's taken me nearly 2 months to even come back here because there's soooo many of you guys doing cool stuff to your cars!

376450.....75-81...262/267/305..6 or 7 exhaust bolt holes, 60cc chamber
You should look for some stock l98s. I got my set on ebay fresh from the machine shop with new valves, seats, seals, guides, zz4 springs, everything for less than I was going to pay to rebuild my TPI heads. If you are going to get stock ones check
www.mortec.com
Before you buy. Stay away from swirl port heads. You need to keep the cc around 58. That is the stock 305 head size.
As for the cam, you can get an LT1 cam, or zz4. They aren't the strongest cams around, but they are still streetable, and run good.
I still have the stock l98 cam w/ 1.6 RRs. My car has decent torque.
