vortec or not ?

I need some advice please. I am planning to rebuild my engine soon, and in the interest of saving money I will be re-using as many stock parts as possible, including the stock TPI.
The block will be bored .030 over with new pistons, new cam, and new heads. I was planning on getting a set of vortec heads and using the SDPC lower intake, but . . I have not been very impressed with some of the dyno numbers I've been seeing. I know the stock TPI doesn't flow very well and all. Would I be better off saving the money for a set of AFR 195's instead ? Also I do plan on using a supercharger down the road if that makes any difference. I would appreciate any advice I can get on heads, cam, and even piston suggestions (comp ratio too). How much power can I expect to get out of the stock TPI ? I'm shooting for atleast 300 RWHP before the supercharger. Please let me know if I'm just dreaming, thanks.

Before the FT show and it's Vortec SC application, the Paxton seemed to be popping up alot, and it comes in kit for TPI cars, saw one go on ebay under $1500 the final bid IIRC.
It started closer to $100~$300!

Vortec heads and the SDPC lower intake will set you back about $800. I would go a little farther and just get the Trick Flow 23° heads for $1000 that way you can use any intake you want including the TPI you already have. The TF heads will also make more power then the Vortec heads. If you really plan on supercharging it you can keep the TPI since all the rules change about it running out of air by 4500rpm when you apply boost.

John, I have a buddy that has a supercharged TPI car which we plan to swap my Miniram on JUST to see the performance differences. I predict that supercharging loves free flowing intakes like the Miniram/LT1 also.

PS: Say hi to Bernard for me. I wish he would come back to TGO.

I'm entertaining a future TPI supercharger application myself, but probably after my restoration is well in hand, if and when. Keep us updated on the findings, and, as ever, include PICS!

I would love to see those results Glenn. Let us all know.

PS: It's nice to see you back after a while without you. Bernard has been back here but not often since he's been so busy lately.
