I an about to switch my 86 305 tpi to a 350 and I have some questions. I have read most of the other messages.
Will my intake from the 86 fit the 87-93 engines that I am going to put in? Also, I was told by a mechanic that I didn't need to switch out the injectors, I could just adjust the regulator.
This is all new to me. Would I be better off just switching to a carb. I want 300 hp. Recon has an engine for tpi that will put out 300 hp, but I haven't heard much about their engines.
Any help would be appreciated

Im doing the same in my 86 iroc. Im keeping the TPI though. I know that the injectors have to be switched to at least 22lb or 24lb. I belive that the 87-92 manifolds have a diffrent angle bolt holes so the 86 and down ones wouldnt fit on the 87 up. but correct me if im wrong on that.

first of all if they are your stock fuel injectors they need replacing first the multecs are probably worn out..2nd of all its 19lbs vs 22 at 40psi the highest you can bump your fuel pressure upto is 50psi but might as well go for some new injectors...
for the next question the intake can be used aslong as you get the correct computer/harness your intake is going to have a cold start injector so youll need the proper 350 computer with csi
and if alls you want is 300...upgrade your cam and rockers, and an intake manifold and youll be over 300

I also have an 86 that went through this transformation a little while ago. I used the factory intake and injectors for a few months with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and bumped it up a little. I ran a little lean but nothing to be concerned about. I also used the stock 305 PROM for about a week. It would start but after that, performance and daily driving was awful.
And as far as 300hp is concerned, that can be reached very easily with the mods listed above....cam, heads, and a better flowing TPI. I can't wait until my next rebuild. I'm gonna see how far I can push the motor without going to nos, turbo, supercharger...etc.
Good luck with the swap, and keep us posted
