Stall out on WOT when in open loop
Just wondering if anyone has had this problem. I have a 1988 Vette TPI 5.7 basiclly stock with chip mods. Anytime the car is cold 150 degress or less (bascilly open loop) and I open it up or give it half throttle or more. I lose all power then it kicks in and continues to be fine untill it is cold again. What i've noticed is it only does it at a half a tank of gas or less, any weather hot or cold, and in open loop only. I've put a fuel pressure gauge on it many times, but it seems fine when I have the fuel pressure gauge on it. I read 40-50 PSI when turn the key in the on postion and when its running it hangs out in the 30-45PSI range. It also holds pressure well. Does anyone think that the regulator might be bad. If so is there anyway to test a regulator. BTW it does it on a stock chip too. The only way i work around it is by warming up the car till it's in closed loop, or a full tank of gas. I do know them c4s went throw full pumps so i think in might be that too? Or could it be a disturbtor? Normally when they go bad they go bad. Just wondering if anyone out there had this problem and what fixed it. It's been like this for about 1 year. I've bascilly been waiting for the problem to get worse but it just seems the same.
thanks
thanks

Try extendine the hose on your gague and duck tape the gague to the windshield (temporarily!) while you drive around. Fuel pressure idling in the driveway is meaningless to what is really going on at WOT.

Opps sorry was not very clear yeah I did that too, It runs fine when i do that, 30- 45PSI cruzing and at WOT i think it dips down to 20PSI for a couple seconds then builds back up. do you think thats to low.
Yes, WOT should be around 50 psi. Sounds like either a restriction on the inlet line (fuel filter, buildup, etc...) or a weak pump.
Try installing the pressure gauge right after the pump and see what the reading is.
EDIT: Cruise should maintain 37-42 PSI also...
