what is needed to swap Vortec heads and HSR on a L98?

I am looking at different options for my friends car and think this might be a decent route to some more power and not a ton of $$ invested. What is needed to swap Vortec heads and the HSR on? I kinda need to know everything to get. What is the best place to get the heads from? Thanks!

I have tried searching already and could not find what I was looking for. If I had a ton of free time to read for 6 hours at a time through 100's posts that would be fine. I just assumed someone in here has done it and could answer it for me. I did not see it in the FAQ either.

If you don't have 6 hours of time to do research on a project like that before you buy $1000+ worth of parts and tear a car apart, you probably shouldn't be doing it. Tell your friend to do some reading if it is his car.

To answer a few questions, the HSR is just coming out for Vortec heads. Standard chevy intakes will not vit Vortec heads, and vice-versa. A prototype was shown at the SEMA show this winter. In March-April '05, they're supposed to be available by retail. I don't think anyone here has one yet -- or at least no one has posted that they have.

Best place to get Vortec heads depends on what kind of cam you are going to use. Vortec's can only handle .460-.480 lift (depending who you ask) in stock form. If you're running a stock-ish cam, get the heads anywhere -- boneyard, local Chevy dealer, or any place that sells them. If you have a cam with more lift than that, you might consider a place like Scoggin Dickey Performance Center that sells upgraded Vortecs.

HSR's have no EGR provision. Does your friend need to pass emissions? Or, more importantly, does he have to pass a visual inspection?

Does he have a Firebird? Lots of people report having hood clearance issues on a 'Bird with the HSR.

He has a 90 IROC and it has a SLP cam now already, I cam unsure on the specs off the top of my head, close to .500 lift I think but it is a slit pattern. I have done some reading on Vortec heads and I do know that they will not match up with a regular intake. I was unsure if anyone had a HSR yet for the Vortec heads. I was just curious if I could use the stock pushrods and rockers or if I'd have to get new ones or if there were any better options and etc.
