Old ghosts always come back?
Seems an old prolbem is back to haunt me. After yanking the engine and rebuilding, I get it all put back together and plug everything in, only to find it doesnt start up, so I pull the plug out of the MAF and it starts up. Ive replaced the MAF, both relays, IAC, TPS before already, can I safely assume that the ECM is the source of my problem? Is there any way to tell for sure? Another question also, I time the engine and by the time I tighten down the dizzy, the timeing is off again, confuses me a bit. Thanks for any help!

Did a little work today, got a code 21, 22, and 24, weird eh? So I hadn'd adjusted the TPS yet, the max I could get it to was .38 VDC, from .00 at the bottom. It revved up to over 4 VDC though at WOT, which seems to be in specs. Put the grounding strap back on from the engine to the body, grounded the hood light and hooked back up the inline fuse there. Put the air bellows back on and plugged in the MAF, the car wouldnt start, it would turn over just fine and try, but never would start. Unplugged the MAF and it turned over, ran for a second or two and shut off (I think this is because the timing is off again?). Im not getting any codes at all, im pretty much baffled, the only thing I can think of is the ECM, anyone got any idea? Thanks!
Since you are experiencing several problems related to sensor inputs, you should check the ECM ground connectionos at the RR corner of the intake, test the 5VDC reference voltage supply from the ECM, and make sure the ECM connections are clean and tight.
I would suspect that the ECM is working properly, since the engine runs in Backup Mode (MAF disconnected).

Wow, I think im way off base here. I think Im having a starting problem and not a MAF problem. Went to re-do the timing before I started in on the MAF troubleshooting and it would just turn over and the battery would be dead after 3-4 cranks, but the car will start right up when I jumped it off. So im going to take the battery and Alt in for testing at the parts store. Maybe theres nothing wrong at all with the MAF hehe.

I had a similar problem once and it was tracked back to a lot of bad grounds. I tested by tying all the grounds together at the ECM. Hope it is as simple as a battery problem.
