Well, after much reading and research on thirdgen.org I've finally started work on my 383 'franken-motor'
.......any advice would be appreciated.
I have a set of 24lb/hr LT1 injectors (P/N 17095004) that measure about 72.5mm long and 24.5mm in diameter (digital calipers are nice)
I'm trying to put these in a fuel rail and intake manifold that came from a '85 model 305cid firebird. When I put the injectors into the rail and then try to put them in to the manfold they seem to be too short to fit the way I think they should. I've read that injector clips would help keep them from going too far into the rail and I've also read that some people grind the rail-mount towers of the manifold down 1/4"-1/2" to get them to seat better. My question is which is the prefferred method or is a combination of the two the best solution?
I don't want to mess up the spray pattern of the injector by not getting it far enough into the manfold and I REALLY don't want leaks or fires!
Thanks for any advice!

i have lt1 injectors running now in my tpi and they work fine, i have had them in with the clips in and now without and all is good, lol i busted a couple of clips so i took them all out, they will not get anywhere once there in anyways
I've heard several people say that you don't need the clips which is why I trial fitted the injectors to the manifold and rail. My injectors fit tight in the rail but when I try to bolt it down, the injectors are pretty much just sitting on top of the ports of the manifold which would be a source of fuel and/or vacuum leaks. I can actually slide them back and forth (with some effort of course) between the rail and the manifold about 1/4". I just don't think that is right.
Did yours move this much?
Thanks!

yes mine i can move abit if i try but if not they do not move at all, i have watched that closely,of course i have new rubber rings too so that helps, just make sure that the bottom of the injector does not bottom out on the base cause i think this will ground out the injector and cause it to stick open if i have read right in the past, think about this, as long as the o ring is sealed in the intake (far enough down) whats the difference if u can see the ring or not, does not seal any better if u can not see it at all, just make sure its low enough to seal and u will be fine, i have been runnign them like this for 2 years now and all is good,
