Confusion about TBI 2 Tpi conversion
I am putting an 86 TPI and vortec heads on a 92 Firebird with TBI
1. Will the small 92 TBI distributer work with the tpi even if I have to make brackets to hold the separate coil?
2. What head gaskets do i need, ones made for vortec heads or stock heads
3. How do I hook up the MAF sensor to the computer? Is there wiring under the hood already? Or do i need to run new wires..
4. Is it a relativily simple to change the MAF to Speed Density?
5. Does anyone have pics of a 90-92 distributor on a tpi with the bracket for the coil?

I think I can help ya a bit here
1. Yep! My 86 MAF TPI has a small cap HEI on it with no problems. You need to change to the small connector to the coil, and change the tach / power connections on the coil itself, and make a mount for the coil, but otherwise it is a bolt in swap.
2. Vortec didn't start till 96 - 97, so I don't think you need vortec head gaskets
3. You'll need to run the wires yourself, TBI never used any form of MAF
4. Yep, it is! I won't go into too much specifics, but you will need a MAP sensor, and a speed density ECM. Do a quick search, you'll find tons of information on this swap.
5. Can't help ya here. My coil is mounted on my truck's firewall, so it'll be nothing like what you come up with for your car.

just found out the heads i have are not true vortecs. The guy I bought them from said they where vortecs, but he got them mixed up with swirl port.
Are the heads better than stock L03 heads? If not, after porting and removing the swirls will they be better?

those are stock L05 heads. ie stock 350 TBI heads.
basically the same thing, just for a 350.
