Whats all this "injector tick" stuff???

I'm a little confused about this "injector tick" stuff. I see mentions of it in various threads but I noticed a lot in the how many miles does your TPI have thread. I dont get it I've always been able to hear fuel injectors ticking reguardless of age and miles. Hell both my dads brand new LT1 cars did it and mine does and my third gen did it, my mazda did...is there some other tick other than the "normal" injector firing?

Dude, I just recently purchased used injectors from E-bay for $28.00. I put them in the car and at first they ticked but only the #2 and #4. I have since ran a quart of valvoline dextron III through a full tank of gas and the injectors have quieted down. The noise is a mystery to me also but I think it is just a design flaw. But I havent noticed any performance problems.

Almost 40 injectors running here, and all of them produce an audible tick at some time. I'd be more concerned if I didn't hear them.

of course injectors tick, just like relays tick... injectors just do their thing with much higher frequency.

So whats everyone talking about in their posts? Read the How Many miles are on your TPI thread for good examples. I dont know what their getting at, but they mention it over and over. Injectors always tick andyes its avery rapid tick.

iunno - maybe his stereo isnt loud enuf. a solenoid that has a very positive stop at one end (to prevent leakage) and that is operated at up to 100 times a second is bound to make a little noise. when eight at a time are operating, there should be even more noise. if the rest of the engine is operating smoothly and quietly, hearing injectors should be expected.

TO all u guys complaining about injector tick.

I'll take u for a ride in a sequential injected 6 cylinder with 65# hr injectors if u want to here some ticking :-)

But being funny aside, all injectors will tick, it is more noticeable on metallic intakes obviously , although any type of dirt debris on a seat, meaning very very little and the sound will deaden or get much less noticeable

later
