fuel running out of intake

so i bought this car and i did a tune up on it this fall, it is a 89 IROC with 350 tpi, well after the tuneup it still wasnt runnin right. well after a month or so (today) i tried startin it, it started up on the second crank no problem, untill it started stumblin and died, i cranked a few more time then poped the hood and took the aircleaner off to check for a mouse nest or somethin (just a hunch), but i didnt find anything so i decided to take the MAF sensor off and when i did a river of gas ran out of the intake. Now to me that seems a bit queer and i was wonderin if it happend to anyone else and if they would share the causes and any soulutions.

thanks

Sounds like the diaphragm in the fuel pressure regulator went bye bye.

Pull the vacuum line off the regulator(in rear under plenum) and see if it has gas pouring out to confirm your fears.

No big deal.

Pull the plenum to get to the regulator.

Also, don't crank the engine with the runners full of fuel, because it'll hydraulic and may break things. Pull the spark plugs, disconnect the coil, and have a fire extinguisher ready.

- had a zz4 hydraulic once at work, oops. no damage, but a nice starter and a good battery might cause something to let go.

Yes, down the plenum, past the valves, and out the exhust. If the FPR is still OK, no fuel pouring out of it, check the CCP purge line. Sometimes the cannisters fill with fuel and dump it into the TB.

RBob.

Are you certain you have fuel exiting the tailpipe, or is it simply concensation with a fuel aroma? It would be nearly impossible to get raw fuel all the way back through the exhaust system and out the end without starting a fire.
