Spark Scatter
Hi everyone!
I'm suffering severe spark scatter in my engine. I'm getting spark knock really bad at higher rpms and idle quality is suffering also. I'm using an MSD 6A box with the stock distributor, and blaster 3 coil. I put the timing light on it the other day, (disconnected the brown wire) and watched my timing at an idle. It's jumping all over the place! Sometimes it'll sit at 6° like it's supposed to, but other wise it's jumping way advanced, like 20°+. The spark knock is most noticable at 3000-4000 rpm under load.
I checked my coil against MSD's specs for it. MSD calls for .7 ohms primary, 4700 ohms secondary. Mine is .9 and 5400 respectively. Is this a cause for concern or should I be looking elsewhere?

I thought of some more details I should add to the story...
The engine would usually cold start just fine without any problems. Although two weeks ago I tried to hot start the engine and it turned over with severe starter kickback like the spark was way over advanced. I solved the problem by replacing the cap and rotor, but when the engine is hot, it is still doesn't start as easy as if it were cold.
Also, I noticed this happening just the other day, occasionally after a hot start even in closed loop the O2 read out will be all over the place, and surging under light throttle. When it does this the O2 is reading more towards the rich side. It's almost as if the spark timing is so screwed up it's not getting a complete burn and shows rich.
I hope this helps.

Dizzy innerds could be worn, dizzy clamp bolt loose, tooooo much slack in the timing chain, bad wires? Just a few things to check.
