Follow up to knock count on start up
Not to long ago I posted a question as to what is normal knock count upon start up of my L98.
What really has prompted most of my research is a intermittant rough idle. Today after church I started up the car, engine cold, in open loop, scanning with Tuner Pro. The idle was very rough, sounded like a stock car will in open loop. Once it went to closed loop the idle became very smooth. What I noticed was that my knock counts were at 112! Normally start up knock counts varie from 1 to 3 with an occasional teen range number in there. I am running stock timing 6d and chip. The car is 99% stock other than a replacement 50 state computer cam from Crane, 214 intake 220 exhaust @.050. 112d lsa. I have an AFPR installed also. It was required with the cam per Crane. I had to set the pressure to 47lbs to get my BLMs where they should be otherwise it was reading lean.
I'm going to be watching this start up knock counts over the next few days, maybe I'm on to something.
Do any of you think this is a mechanical issue?

Yep mine will do that and I'm told that's normal behavior because the ECM tests the knock sensor at first. However I appreciate any and all input. What was odd today was the climb to 112 counts accompanied buy the shaking idle. Unfortunatly I didn't notice if the excessive counts occured all at once or if they accumulated as the engine warmed up.
When I replaced the cam I noticed that the bearings were quite worn. Some of the lead was gone showing the bronze underneath. So I guess I'm stressing a bit wondering if I have bearing knock. I can't physically hear anything but then the sensor is much more sensitive. I run 91 octane in the car but this is California and 91 here probably isn't much better then 87 elsewhere. Back to the 500 but I'm keeping an eye on the post, thank you sir.
