tune up questions

Hey guys well im pull out my 87 gta vert, and going to give it a tune up it is a 305 TPI, AUTO.. but i have a few questions first the car has been sitting for almost 4 years and i changed the oil and started it up and let it run over the winter, it fires right up and runs really smooth, has a little bit of a tick but that is it, but i was wondering what you all would recommend for tuning, i mean would just the simple plugs, wires, fuel filter, fluid flush, be enough or should i dive a little deeper and change the thermostate and etc, i know im going to to do the belts, and maybe an alternater, but let me know what you guys think, and the parts you would recommend, and fluids as well.

thanks guys

Steve

Sounds liek you got it pretty well figured out . Me I would try and fix that tick though . It can lead to driveability issues down the road possibly.

You may think of changing out your vac hoses also. 4 years is a long time. the rest you seem to have under control. just do a good overall tune and then see if the ticking is still there. ticking could be injectors also. just my 2

i think the car is fine just change the fulids and as for the ticking it could be a loose rocker or something. Make sure to use good oil i would add a bottle of lucus to the engine they make stuff for the gas tank too which is real nice you should have no problems after that.

Off the top of my head, I'm typically paranoid when I get a 'new' car. Even if I've been told it's been done 'recently' I'd typically do the fuel filter, cap, rotor, plugs, wires if they need, tranny fluid and filter, oil and filter, clean the batt. terminals and grounds, coolant flush and t-stat, brake line flush and fluid swap, ps fuid change and then I go over everything else. It's a start anyway.

In addition to the above, I'd take a good look at the heater and radiator hoses. Anything over 4 years old is pushing it.
