How to remove underhood fuel lines?

Alright, last time I did this, half the motor was missing, and everything was a mess. I just did my best to get all the fuel in a bucket, but I wasn't really concerned about mess.

This time I'm just removing the rubber fuel lines between the hardlines. Is there a proper way to do this, or do I simply make a mess and clean up later?????

dumping fuel out is pretty much it.
loosen the gas cap before you loosen any of the fittings.
you can bleed off the fuel pressure at the pressure test port with your gage, it helps some.
