Opinions on 24lb Injectors

I am thinking of putting in 24lb accel injectors in my L98,I have a hypertech street runner chip, headers and good exhaust system, but aside from that the car is stock with no afpr. Will the car run rich?,will it pass emissions?Do I need a different chip?

Putting in 24# injectors would most likely couse the motor to run rich and probably degrade performance without having a custom tuned prom. That hypercrap chip does nothing for your performance either. Since you already have done exhaust work, your motor can breath out better now why dont you let it breath in better? I would spend the money on a AFPR. then port the plenum and build or buy a cold air intake and put the stock chip back in. and if you really want to get serious look into tuning your own prom. You will be most happy with results these simple mods yeild. TMO

Better question would be why are you thinking about 24# injectors? And stay the hell away from Accel if you do, get SVO's instead.

yes, 24 would run rich, especially w/o a tune. You're no where near the point of needing to upgrade injectors, so why waste your money on something thats not gonna give you any gains? Stock injectors will support around 425bhp, and you're not seeing 300 yet....

afpr, ported plenum/base, aftermarket runners, etc.....

I agreewith all of the above, work on you intake side and get more air in. Unless you can burn a custom prom to change the injector constant, don't bother. And Hypercrap chips only modify your wide open throttle, it does nothing anywhere else in the tables. I know, I got a car that had one and checked it out. I made a better one myself for under $5. They are not even close to being worth $200 or whatever they cost now. Do your intake mods and AFPR

I did the same thing only on my 305 tpi. Went from the 19's to 22's. The car ran very rich but it was .2 faster. I would'nt recommend it if your convertors are still in tact. I did'nt mind, my cat was hollow. Runs good and didn't set any codes. Gas mileage went from 24mpg to about 21. Planning on tuning here shortly.

I have about the same mods done as you and I have 24lb svo injectors. I only got them because the original injectors were in bad shape. I passed emissions easily, but I did change the injector constant in the chip.

Back to the 24lb SVO injectors....

I've only had my 88 IROC L98 for four months now and have been chasing all kinds of mantainance gremlins. I just purchased a set of lightly used 24lb SVO injectors to that I can just switch them out with my worn leaky originals. Post after post in SEARCH recommends the SVO injectors as a far superior unit than others- thus why I chose them.

I have just stumbled across this post and am concerned about doing the switch. Will it really eat my catalytic converter? And how are people coming up with a $5 Dollar replacement Prom? I checked out PCMforless.com and they want over $100 bucks for a core charge. How do I get ahold of a $5 chip????? or is it the cost of something else? Nitro

It will eat your catalytic converter if you're running too rich or too lean.

If you install a AFPR on a 305, what do you change the pressure to?
