What to do with fuel lines whilst engine is out of car? Fuel leaking!

I'm in the process of an engine swap due to a dropped valve and a smashed piston. I'm wondering what to do with the fuel lines in the engine bay that are disconnected.

At first I had the ends of the lines covered by clear polythene and taped, but noticed a significant pooling of petrol in the bag. This seems to have lessened now I have taken the fuel filler cap off. I also tried clamping the rubber section of lines but was still getting the leak.

1. Is there a way to 'plug' them? What size of fitting would you use?
2. Should the gas cap be left off?
3. Should I drain the fuel tank?

Many thanks for any advice!

it happened because your cap was on, leave it off, no problems.

you could also try raising the lines up instead of letting them just hang there. i forget what i capped mine with, but wasn't leak proof anyways so i just raised them straight up and used a piece of wire to hold them that way.

What I did was raise them slightly, wrap them in a small plastic bag and elastic band, covered by a rag, And then unscrewed the gas cap to relieve the pressure and there were no more leaks for the several months it was off the road.
