You will need to change the output signal of the LT1 MAF from a modulated frequency to an anlalog voltage. I think some aftermarket companies have offered a "MAF Translator" or something like that for this purpose.

After all that .... doesn;t the ECM have a 255 gm/sec limit that really wouldn;t make the swap practical ?

Try contacting Bob Bailey for more info on the MAf Translator.

He has his own website or can also be reached thru Fullthrottle.com

Great guy.

Yes, the ECM firmware has a limit of 255g/S of MAF measuring capability. The only advantage to using a larger MAF is on larger displacement engines, and at higher RPM where the MAF itself can become a flow restriction. At WOT, the ECM doesn't use the MAF data and operates with fuel trims from tables based on RPM and a calculated load value. The LT1 MAF can theoretically be used to report the correct data to the ECM at lower flows, then provide a larger "duct" for intake air flow in Open Loop Mode.

Dont forget the fact that the LT/LS MAF are actually quite cheap and extremely reliable especially compared to the garbage any 80's RWD GM vehicle had.
