starting issues
I have been recently having issues with the car not starting. I turn the key and nothing happens, no cranking..nothing. I figured it was the vats system and bypassed it but im still having the problem. Ive noticed its after long periods of driving so i am leaning towards a heak soaked solinoid (the car will fire right up after sitting for a couple of minutes). However i thought the solinoid, if it was heatsoaked would just kinda turn the motor over slowly and such...not cease completely.

Had similar problems before I left for China, back in 2004. Mine was definitely NOT the starter, because in order to start it, I'd just take a wire from the + on the battery and pierce it into the purple wire that runs along the passenger side runners (which energises the solenoid), with the key on, and it starts and runs. Could be the park nuetral switch, or a problem in the steering column. My VATS is only in the ECU for the 89, so it wouldn't affect the starter/cranking.
