I am replacing my little 305 with this!

Look what I found guys! I just brought this rascal home yesterday. it is a legit Lingenfelter 383. The first pic is of the engine. In the second pic is of the back of the cylinder head, it is blurry but below the #26 it says "LPE 5883". The final pic is of the valley with the intake off. I have a few pics of the head porting and will have more once I get the heads off. The mods will have to let me post more than 3 pics to post them though. Also on the final pic, see the black streak running into the intake port? All of the intake ports have this to varying degrees and the intake manifold gaskets look like they may not have been sealing the best. This engine was pulled from a Corvette because it was smoking on deceleration. The owner said he ran synthetic in it from day one so I just figured the rings never seated, but seeing this, it looks like it was sucking oil vapor from the valley on deceleration and the ring seal may be fine. The engine was in a 91 Corvette with an automatic and made 340whp just before it was pulled so I imagine it is not hurt too bad.

This engine also has these red rockers that say Carroll on them, never hear of these rockers before. It also has 1.5s on the exhaust and 1.6s on the intake side. I can see where the oil passages in the block have been deburred, obviously the valley is painted too. The intake was port matched fairly well and all the spark plugs look a little dark but not too bad. This engine seems to be in good shape so far. I'll post up when I get the heads off. Let me know what you guys think. I am now glad that I swapped to a TKO600!!

Nice score. What kind of heads are those? GM or Aftermarket?

Well the heads say LPE 5883 on them because they are Lingenfelter ported L98 heads.

I pulled the cylinder heads this week and the combustion chambers and the tops of the pistons werent even completely covered in carbon. The cylinder walls look perfect with crosshatch and all. I had planned on rebuilding the engine but with the seemingly obvious intake leaks, and with the rest of the engine being so pristine, I am going to just clean the heads, and reassemble everything with new gaskets and run it. It just seems foolish at this point to disassemble an engine that is in perfect condition, besides I can use the extra money for a new flywheel, and on tuning. I'm also going to need some rubber to hook this thing up. Anyway, thats the update guys.

what cam did they run in that, approximately? What compression ratio? Do you have a copy of the bin they used in the chip? I'm going to be putting an engine together one of these years, and already have the SuperRam and some 74cc AFR 195s, and some other stuff, but would like to see a very streetable 350rwhp or so, and just looking at what's out there.

Also, look up into the intake manifold to see if the black stuff is up there a ways too, because it might just be from injectors spraying there (maybe not, too, just an idea). Hope your diagnosis was right.
