Re: Post Your TPI Quarter Times! Or Eighths!

I think it's time to post an updated time. especially considering my last time was with my engine running off of 7 cylinders

R/T ... .172
60' ... 2.201
1/8 ... 9.962
MPH ... 68.18
1000 ... 13.016
1/4 ... 15.597
MPH ... 87.33

I think I can pick up another tenth or so as my best 60' was 2.177 and on my fastest run I manually shifted at 5000 RPM instead of 4500 RPM on my slower runs.

manifoldsrme: after seeing your times, it looks like an airfoil and 3.42's or 3.53's would benefit me very well seeing as you have the same exact engine/tranny as I do.

Re: Post Your TPI Quarter Times! Or Eighths!

Ive got some new times for the Iroc.

Since its last/best time of 9.87 @ 70.09 MPH w/2.16 60' I ported/siamesed the plenum, and added an airfoil.

Best time out of only 3 runs was a 9.90 @ 68.50 MPH w/2.12 60' Everything on this run was better than its best time until the 594 ft mark. It may have been because I didn't open my cutout, and the car didn't have a fresh tuneup.

Its an 86 Iroc-Z LB9 Auto. 3.23 Gears
Stock, except for K&N's, a flowmaster muffler, and 3in cutout(closed), ported/siamesed plenum.

I'm finishing up my Aluminum 113 head install(ran into some problems, but I'm gonna start it up again tomorrow), and ported the lower intake while it was apart. Hopefully I can get some new times soon.

Heres the best time of my dads 92 L98 Z28 Camaro:
Its got a 3in exhaust, ported plenum, and k&n's.

9.28 @ 75.75 MPH w/2.08 60'
He said he was spinning the hole night, so maybe after we install the Hooker 2055 headers, and a better 60' he can get in the 8's.

what else besides HSR? Stock cam ect?
Your MPH is pretty low but your 60ft is awesome
----------
I'd post mine but its hard to compare--since I ran my best to date last friday.

4800 DA 14.3@96mph should be a good 13.4 at sea-level. 2.1 60ft

I feel maybe i need some tuning and a HSR

Re: Post Your TPI Quarter Times! Or Eighths!

i have stock L98 long block. Only thing i have done was HSR instead of TPI. Hooker shorty headers, 3inch custom catback with gutted cat
2800 stall and 3.42 gear on ET streets for the 60 foot.

The mph is pretty good i'd think for my mods and the big tires/stock irocz wheels. i put down about 250whp. i think i could hit 100-101mph with my street tires

Re: Post Your TPI Quarter Times! Or Eighths!

1989 iroc-z 305 tpi 5 spd

mods:
freshly rebuilt factory motor, tb coolant bypass, k&n filters airfoil, edelbrock headers, 2.5in y pipe to in mid pipe and a borla 3in setup, aluminum driveshaft, centerforce clutch, rebuilt t5, b&m shifter, 350 injectors, afpr

anyways i suck at driving hardcore and i unfortunately was running raped 255/60 yokohamas on it but, anyways

my time was a 15.1

my 60 footer was a 2.43 (yah laugh i did too......)

trap speed was a 91.35 mph

i figure if i can get that down to 2 flat and figure out the best shift points i could run a 14.6 or so currently. it could use a tuneup, and i have an old msd 6al box that will be going on soon along with 1.6 ratio full roller rockers once i junk the smog cor ease of install and looks (plus it smells pig rich i need to han a fuel pressure gauge to it i think).

Re: Post Your TPI Quarter Times! Or Eighths!

89 305 tpi formula
slp cold air intake
descreend maf
ported upper pleneum
as&m runners
edlebrock base ported
24lb injectors
comp xr276hr cam with new springs and lifters
mac headers and y pipe
slp loudmouth
t-56 with slipping centerforce clutch
holley afpr
spohn x-member and torque arm
no emmisons stuff at all
10 bolt with 4.30 rear and an open rear that goes posi every single time the tires break loose, which tends to be pretty often
and i think thats it
i went a 13.48 at 105.11 with a .009 r/t and a 2.23 60', and its still all untuned im waiting for a chip from lsracing right now, and i no the 4.30s are too tall for a tpi but its so much fun to drive with them in there and with a t-56 i still can cruise at 2200 at 60

89305formula, thats a nice mods list there. i like to see cammed 305's..its a shame i dont see that many. i think the 305 has potential just no one really spends the time on them. only know a few members on here that have good times in a 305 car

Re: Post Your TPI Quarter Times! Or Eighths!

it's a 5.0 liter, cmon the imports keep up with a 3.5 liter.. for example, i've seen many 350z's (3.5l's 3500lbs 300 hp 300 ft lbs) run 14 flat. it's a very similar setup to our cars in terms of weight, layout and power, why it beat us: more traction off the line, shorter wheel base, slightly better weight dis., and a much improved powercurve over our tire spinning torque motors.

now a 300 hp car should be faster but as is the problem with our cars, they aren't geared right for this, they kill us stock on the highway but barely hack it in the 1/4. i'd be mad if i bought a 30,000$ car and got spanked by a 22,000$ cobalt or srt4.. or a 2000$ beat up gta for that matter, i can win if he doesn't hi the tree

305 is a fine platform, just needs the time put into it that gm didn't..

Re: Post Your TPI Quarter Times! Or Eighths!

i bought all that stuff over the course of last year with the intention of building a big inch small block untill i got in some trouble with the fuzz and long story short it ended up costing me about $5500 that was going to be used for a merlin 427 or 434 sbc but im only 19 so i got all the time in world to build my car up, after i realized it was going to be atleast another year untill i bought the short block, i just went ahead and put this stuff on the 305 it turned out pretty well, you should see the look on the ls1 and lt1 guys faces at the track after i beat them and i tell them its only a 305, most dont believe me though

stock TPI : 156,??? miles

actually lost 2mph w/3.73's but gained 1.5 tenths in 60'
I was also in the mid 13.60's . I did the headers , exhaust and deletes at the same time so its hard to tell what helped the most , but I did lose 80 + lbs ditching the serpentine setup .
How are you 60 footing so well ? Probably my driving ,I'm leaving at 1200 - 1500 rpm on drag radials . Just installed a real tach so that is a guess off the factory junk .Seems to leave good on that launch though .
I see you are in PA . I am 10 mins. from MIR . Let me know if you ever come down this way . Always looking for a reason to go to the track .

wow your setup was sorta like mine lol i got 156K miles too

I have basic full exhaust and 2800 stall with 3.42 gears. i leave the line at 2400 rpms or so on ET streets on 17 psi. hooked like a charm. Full suspension mods and torque arm helps this. with stock TPI i was 13.63 but think i had a 13.5x in it. You went 13.6 without headers and those other mods? wow

I had A/C and smog still in the car then. i now have HSR and no a/c or smog and now underdrive pullies.

Your times are very good for stock TPI and 3.73 gears and mild converter.

I have planned to go to MIR sometime in my career...maybe this year, maybe not...i'll have to see. i'm in pittsburgh area so that is a far drive for the car in race trim LOL

Wow, how high are you revving it then? If you're spinning through most of 1st and 2nd you should be topping 4th out in the 8th.

Re: Post Your TPI Quarter Times! Or Eighths!

This is a neat thread so I'll contribute a pass from my first GTA.

1987 GTA 305/700R4 all stock

15.7 @ 88 mph 1/4 mile

This run is from almost 10 years ago back in high school. I reacently bought a 91 GTA with a 5.7 thats all stock. I plan on going to the track oct 12th for a baseline. Then the quest for mid 13's begins.

Re: Post Your TPI Quarter Times! Or Eighths!

Here is my best slip in full

R/T - .201 ( horrible reaction time)
60 - 2.036
330 - 5.970
1/8 - 9.259 @ 73.84 mph
1000 - 12.126
1/4 - 14.540 @ 93.35 mph

I had street tires @ 22 psi and hooked very well. I shifted @ 5000 rpm and was running around 160 - 175 degrees for water temp. I think it was a good run, I just wish these made more power in the higher RPM.

stock L98, air foil, msd coil, accel cap & rotor, 160 stat, & throttle body coolant by-pass mod.

My best was a 15.34 at 91mph but I am also racing at a 5800ft track so corrected to sea level I ran a 14.2 at 98mph
