evap canistor, and other vac line Qs.

I got an 88 TPI. Its got a lot of miles on it and its a mess under the hood. I was going to get rid of the canister to clean it up but the forum changed my mind. Anyways, there is alot of vac lines going to this thing. Im replacing them all. Its rather confusing. Whos idea was it to use like 8 different sizes of vac line under the hood! Do any of these ports connect to eachother? Are there any i can eliminate?

For the breather on the passenger side, and the PCV valve on the right. Is it okay to put a breather on the passenger side? (to get rid of the metal tube and brittle hose that goes to the TB)

Also on top of the cruise control thing there are two vac line ports. What goes to the passenger side port?

You'll get a lot of different responses, but personally, I wouldn't remove anything. Just replace the TB to valve cover hose with another. If it's like mine, it should be a standard size hose. Use rubber fuel hose as it carries vapors and such into the TB. The breather will likely get clogged with oil as I know my hose has some oil in it. Most of the vacuum lines are standard stuff. Make sure you use fuel hose where necessary due to the vapors fuel, oil, etc that will turn them brittle and hard real fast otherwise. The LONG hose that runs from the canister to the TB should be standard vacuum hose. I can't remember all the hoses, but look em over. Fuel hoses will be tougher and you should see threads on the end of the hose. The vacuum lines will be thinner, more flexible and not as tough as the fuel lines.

I replaced almost all my vacuum lines leading from the intake/plenum/TB and many others due to age and wear on em. There may be a couple of coupler fittings. I know one of the TB to canister hoses has a much larger fitting on the TB than the canister so they used a 2 inch piece of hose with a coupler to connect it to the much smaller vacuum hose. Weird, but, eh. I carefully pried the shorter piece of hose off the coupler and had to carefully cut away the extremely hard remainder to break it off the coupler. After that I used a nice piece of hose and its all new and flexible again.
