What sensor is....

Directly above the starter, between (and slightly above) the rear 2 spark plugs on the passenger side?

It only has 1 wire coming out...Im thinking temp gauge?

91 z28 w/ 350

it is the temp sensor that tells when to turn on the radiator fan.

And thats different from say..."coolant temp"?

I ask because I had bought the connector for it, because when we took it off, it broke...so 6 months later, we realized that the plastic ring that was part of the sensor itself was ALSO broke...so I needed a new sensor...

The parts guy and I both looked through their wells book at autozone for over 30 minutes and couldnt find it...I even had the connector with me...and he still couldnt find it, and I didnt know what sensor it was

This page says "The secondary fan has its own temperature sensor in the bottom of the engine block (passenger side) The Auxiliary Coolant Fan is controlled by the A/C Pressure switch and the auxiliary coolant fan switch. It is not controlled by the ECM. It should have black and black/pink wires going to it, and the coolant fan will have black and black/red wires going to it."

The sensor Im talking about only has 1 wire going to it, is it the auxiliary coolant fan?

Ya, if it is in the head, with one wire it is the Temp Switch for the fan, it has the same type of connector as the knock sensor which is in the block about maybe 8 inches down from the switch in the head.

mine had the connector and part of the sensor break apart on my car, but since my temps never go over 220 (stays at about 170 all the time) , I don't plan on replacing it. Secondary Fan Switch is in the 240* range I believe.
I do have manual switches hooked up to both of my fan relays so that I can turn either or both of them on whenever I want also. the switches are wired to ground and to the ground terminal on the relays (green wires).
