Error code 36 please help
Hello,
I finally finished my project El Camino and of course am now running into a problem. The upgrades that I put into it engine wise are as follows, an 89 Trans-Am F.I. system with a painless wiring harness. This engine is a 350 with stock runners and stock upper plenum has an Edelbrock lower plenum, edelbrock cam(number 3702) the specs for the cam are : Duration 268int 288exh, @.050 194int 214exh / Lift @Cam .265int .294exh, @ valve .398int .442exh / Timing intake 10'ATDC open 24ABDC close Exhaust 44BBDC open 10BTDC close. The air intake is a Cold Air K&N 3" coming in. The exhaust is Thorley Tri-Y headers going into a custom 3" exhaust all the way to a flomaster muffler then shrinking to a 2 5/8 pipe for the last portion one for looks and two for some back pressure. Also I have a stage 1 tbichips custom chip( bought it mainly to turn the fans on sooner), I have this problem regardless of the chip that's in it. The system works great except for a couple of problems. The main problem is I get an error code of 36 which is (MAF sensor burn-off voltage was missing), this will come up after 1-2 days of driving. We have checked this out and of course everything check out and is operating correctly. We have replaced the MAF with a new unit stock. The Elkie runs great for the most part it idles a little ruff but not bad also every once in a while I can smell fuel vapor kinda like raw fuel but upon inspection we cant find any leaks, I thought it might be coming from the purge cannister but at this point I'm just guessing. I talked to an "engine specialist" and He mentioned that it might be the MAF bieng to small for the amount of air coming and and the computer might be trying to compensate by dumping more fuel in causing a overly rich condition and therfore throwing the code I'm not to sure about this, what are your thoughts? He recommended going to a 52mm MAF, I thought checking with the experts before I spent more money would be a better idea. Sorry for the long post but any help would be great!
