I have a 1992 trans am 305 tpi my problem is I can crank the engine over and get spark at the plugs but the fuel pump does not turn on automaticly , but I can run the fuel pump primer wire to the battery and get the pump to run but even when the pump is running in this state it still does not start . I also pulled a plug to see if there was fuel and there was none. I checked power at the injectors and it is there while cranking. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK . It will fire with starting fluid.

Re: spark no fuel pump or injector
I think that it is the electronics in the distributor. I had spark and the fuel pump would turn on, but the injectors would not open to get me fuel. I tried a new distributor and the engine fired right up with the first turn of the key.

I believe that you can rebuild the electronics inside the dizzy instead of buying an entirely new dizzy.

any codes? I am thinking if you aren't getting the injectors to fire .....possible oil preasure sensor ? It's part of the fuel pump circuit .

Re: spark no fuel pump or injector
did you check the fuel pump relay? Check for power at the relay connector, if you have power, switch the relay with one of the other 2 beside it on the fire wall to see if the relay is bad. Or, you can have a friend or stranger turn the key to the run position, while you put a finger on the fuel pump relay to see if you feel it "click" for about a 3 second hold, then click open again.

Re: spark no fuel pump or injector
checked to see if the fuel pump relay is making contact and it is not , I can run the fuel pump prime wire directly to the batt and get the pump to run but still no injector pulse. I think the reason it fires after sitting is fuel injectors leaking fuel over time . I will trie some of the tests in my tpi swappers guide book as soon as I get a test light. for the continued input

wait you just said the relay is NOT making contact when turning the key to the run position, so I would now be testing for power at the relay connector. If you have power there with the key on for about 3 seconds, then try a new relay.

Re: spark no fuel pump or injector
Good idea I will check power at the fuel pump relay , the relays are fairly cheap anyway.

Re: spark no fuel pump or injector
checked power at relay (good) according to my TPI swappers guide it chould be the relay for the fuel pump problem but I installed a new relay no change, got a oil pressure switch also about to swap it in next. I did find out also according to the swappers guide that the ignition module is bad , I checked it by disconnecting the 4 pin dist connector and checking for a flashing light with a test light to the injector #1 and every time it was time to fire the light would flash indicating that the ECM is sending the signal to fire the injector but it will not transfer through the ignition module , I think I am going to replace the dist mine has 235,000 on it so it is about that time I suppose. Any other input would be apprieciated thanks for all the help so far
