Corvette L98 alum. vs. Vortec

I know a guy who has a brand new set of the vette heads he has never used and can get a fair deal on. My question is should I wait till that new vortec intake for tpi becomes available? Aren't the intake ports on the vette heads only 163cc's? I guess there is also the weight savings of the alum. I have a LB9 with some mods but figured I'd swap in a cam, heads and headers at the same time. How hard would it be to find some of the vortec's to work on my 305? Thanks

I hope that if you do go with the vette heads you truly are getting a good deal. One guy told me that he would sell me some vette heads for my 305 for $400. His were used at 30,000 miles and I found out I can by brand new ones for $422 at Paceparts.com

If the heads are off an L98 and are in good condition they would be the better deal. They have the right size combustion chambers and intake bolt pattern, you also can retain the factory egr system if it matters. As fare as flow numbers are conserned they flow a lot better than the stock head and are easy to port if you need more.

No, you cant. The aluminum vette head has no provisions and cant be modified for any reasonable amount of money to retain the stock EGR setup.
How much? They are a pretty decent head for a stock head. Keep in mind Lingenfelter performs his magic on these heads for his 400ci engines, so how bad can they possibly be?

The L98 heads also dont have the correct bolt pattern for 87-92 intakes. They have the 85-86 bolt pattern. But you'd want an aftermarket intake to take advantage of them, anyway.
