LT1 cam in a 350 crate ?

Hey guys, I'm new here so help me out please!! I am in the process of putting a crate 350 roller cam motor in my '91 GTA. I have 5.0/5-spd now and want more power. I was going to put the stock L98 cam in it and still get full warranty but it was suggested to put a LT1 or regular LT4 cam in it. I think I am going with the LT1 cam and 22lb LT1 injectors. (I'm aware that I have to replace the long pin on the cam with a short L98 one!) Problem is I don't know what to set the timing at and adjust the valves to and how(Running or cold or???)? Appreciate any help... thanks!

I just installed an LT1 cam in my L98.You don't have to replace the dowel pin, just tap it back in until it is only sticking out .300".If it won't tap in far enough,(like mine didn't)than grind it down till it's sticking out the .300".I set my valves as normal.First, turn the crankshaft till the lifter that you are working on sits all the way down in it's bore, meaning it's at the bottom of the lobe. Then while twisting the pushrod with your index finger and thumb, tighten down the rocker till all the play is gone. Then give the nut another 1/2 turn and it should be set.As far as timing, I am going to set mine at 6 deg. btdc to start and go from there.Hope that helps.

Beefy89-
Thanks man, just what I was looking for!! I'll probably sett he timing at 6*BTDC or so like you said and go from there probably up to at least 8*BTDC. AS far as the pin, I thougth about grinding it anyways. Well, how do you like that cam init and is it much better or what or should I go with LT4 production cam??? Thanks again!!

The car is not running yet.SLP said my headers should be here by Tuesday.Istill have to hook up all the wiring, and put the starter and stuff on.Hopefully I can start it by the weekend.A friend of mines dad recommended the LT1 cam, plus 1.6 rockers and ZZ3 springs. He's an engineer at SLP,so I trust what he says. It's a daily driver and I didn't want anything to radicle, because I live about 25 miles from work.I'll post when I get it running.
