Distributor - how much of a shaft in-play?

My TPI distributor has some in-play in the shaft, i.e. it moves up and down about a millimeter. Which translates to a degree or two of play in the distributor. Plus extra play in the distributor gears (another degree maybe).

Does anybody know what the in-play tolerance is? I couldn't find it anywhere.

Thx
Lou

Re: Distributor - how much of a shaft in-play?

a millimeter of vertical play is nothing

never come across one new or old that didnt have this paly in them they are not preloaded to have no play in them the gear is just roll-pinned in place not tight against the flat disc "bushing" at the bottom end of the housing inbetween it and the gear

you are worrying over nothing

if it had no play at then id be concerned it was binding up and something was bad wrong with it

good luck

Re: Distributor - how much of a shaft in-play?

Alright, thank you.
I'm just trying to find the source of a possible misfire or whatever I should classify my problem as. So I thought I'd pull the distributor and check. Seems ok then.

Thanks
Lou
