Cam... LT1/Lt4 in a TPI

ok... i have to put new injectors in my 350 TPI... well thats gonna involve taking most of the intake apart... SO....

i was thinking maybe put a new cam in.... i keep hearing about guys putting LT1 cams and the LT4 hotcams in there 350 TPI`s... is it worth it... i`m not changing anything but the cam if i do this... the intake and the heads are stock and i plan on keeping it that way, i don`t have headers either the engine is 100% stock... will there be a big gain if i put a LT1 cam in or a hotcam?? i wouldn`t mind alittle more HP. but if i`m not gonna really notice anything i don`t want to rip 1/2 my engine apart to gain 5 hp.

don't think you'll see much of a gain without supporting mods.

diddn`t think so... oh well... i`m keeping the car stock... but you can`t see a cam so i thought of maybe putting one in..... and well i just don`t have the cash to go and put Vortec heads and a vortec TPI intake on.... oh well.. the car is fast enough for me as it is..... from 80-160km/h i beat the **** outta a 5.0L convertable with a 351 and a 5 speed.... this car gets up and goes pretty good

Re: Cam... LT1/Lt4 in a TPI

Going off you side profile you got a 85 LG4, thats a flat tappet motor, both cam's you listed are rollor cam's

If you beat a mustang with a 351ci in it with your LG4, something must be very wrong with that mustang

haha... no thats my old car..... in the sig you can see that one was far from stock LOL... cammed, heads... intake ... holley 650.. all the fun stuff... it may have been a LG4 but it was ALOT faster after i built it

I should probly change all that stuff in my profile and sig... my car now is a 1990 Pontiac Firebird GTA w/ 350 TPI, 9 bolt. and leather

yes i still have the Z28 but she`s sitting for now

Re: Cam... LT1/Lt4 in a TPI

If you want to put a cam in there, put one designed for a TPI. I had a crane TPI compucam in a carbed 350 and that was one torquey ****. An LT1 cam will be a dud, been there done that.

Re: Cam... LT1/Lt4 in a TPI

I have a LT1 cam in mine, BUT I also have Crane H-11 tool steel springs and retainers, as well as 1.6rr's nad upgraded the intake. IMO, I would do it if you have the motor apart, but if it were me I would have done the ZZ4 cam if I had to do it all over again. But as you can see in my sig not bad on steet tires with 32 psi and no chassis adj.

Sucks that you lost your job, good luck finding another one so you can buy the mods for your TA.
