350 HO crate motor + TPI
350 HO crate motor + TPI
Has anyone tried to use one of these with a tpi?
http://paceperformance.com/index.asp...D&ProdID=22746
I ordered one about a week ago. The dealership said it would work fine with a tpi but, the more i look at it it looks like it has vortec heads... uh oh.
yeah. and i'm not feelin like goin out and droping $400 on a vortec tpi manifold.
One more question it is said that this engine will put out 330 hp with a carburator setup. what do you guys think it will put out with the 19 lb injected (305) tpi setup?

buy the vortec base, i think it will work quite well.
also, i think you should get injectors off a LT1 insead of the 19lbs.. they are like 24

You will need a Vortec TPI base, no ifs ands or buts. Not to be a jerk, but why would you drop $2,800 without doing some research?
I agree it would be a good idea to swap injectors (at least to 350/22lbs), but I would also suggest changing the cam. I doubt this combo will run well without some tuning/chip burning.
I had this motor (carb'd) in my 87 Monte SS and loved it. I researched doing it in my Z/28 with a Vortec HSR and found that GM Part # 12530283 is about $350 cheaper. Its a Goodwrench L31 (new) replacement. It is basically the same engine except it has flattop instead of dished pistons (9.4CR vs. 9.1) and it is already roller cam equipped. I planned on taking the $350 I saved and upgrading the cam to a new XFI lobe.
Good luck, but you don't have a choice - you'll either have to return the engine or spend some money on an intake...

I'm 99% done doing the exact same swap in my Monte Carlo SS right now. All I need to get it running is the gas tank and fuel lines.
Anyways, I know the price sucks, but you're going to have to bite the bullet and buy the intake from SDPC or hope that one comes up for sale on here or ebay. Even then, they still sell for $300+ used.
And definitely run 22 lb injectors at the least.

Alright well i got the motor today and sure enough it wont fit. Thanks for you guy's input. so, i guess now my situation is a decision between a carb or to stick with the tuned port.
I really like the tuned port but if i decide to go with it then i have to switch out injectors ($$$) buy a manifold (more $$$), get a 350 knock sensor, pay to have the prom reprogrammed / do my own prom ( still costs about 200$ after chip burners etc.) AND fix the broken MAF sensor.... looking at all of this setup it looks like i'll be spending at least 1k to get the tpi on and running.
Or. the alternative...
call up summit and have them set me up with a nice carb setup to fit on vortec heads for a couple hundred bucks and sell the tpi (also) for a couple hundred bucks. This way i break even and never have to worry about PROMs injectors and whatnot.
Dont get me wrong i love the tpi but its not lookin too great for it right now.
what do you guys think?
