When I replaced my injectors I left the runners on. I had to seperate the fuel rail but it worked out ok and had no problems.

If you are going to loosen the runners anyways, what is the difference if you take them right off the car? It's only a couple of turns with the ratchet. Not a big job by any means.

My experience on my L98 was to remove the passenger side injectors first, then the driver's side injectors. By removing pass. side first, that'll give the driver side enough play area to get them out - no removal or loosening of the runners required. If your injectors have been in for awhile, I'd recommend stuffing the injector holes so that if the little "tang" on the lockring does break, it won't go down in there.
