Manifolds and Runners for TPI???

Guys its getting closer to the time for me to start ordering the parts for my motor. I am going put a 350 in here in the next 6 months and in about 6-8 weeks I will start part ordering with every pay check. I have some questions regarding manifolds. I have heard and recommended Edelbrock because its supposed to be the best. How is TPIS compared with Edelbrock. Also Will an LT1 manifold work on L98 vette heads? What manifolds and runners would you guys recommend. I don't know if I can afford mini ram. I have heard that Edelbrock base plate and runners will flow enough for about 5700 rpm. Is this correct? Also are Edelbrock runners the best? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

All of the TPI bases flow essentially the same. Edelbrock is the best bang for buck base out there. TPIS has their base cast by Edelbrock, adds some port work, and charges thru the nose for it. Accel's falls in between price-wise.

LT1 is reverse flow cooled and runs an Opti so it's intake it won't work on a L98 without major, major mods.

As far as runners go, people seem to like the AS&M ones the best.

I've heard only good things about the edelbrock set-up too. They also say about a 15-18bhp increase. I'm not sure if that's on a stock or modified car. Does anyone know??

How much do the edelbrock intakes run? I've found the high flow runners (somewhere) but I haven't seen a price for the intake...

hey luke, i used to go to West Genesee back in 1990. Oh i called summit last nite, they want $365, but they are back order 16 of them and don't plan to have one till feb. On another note the stock base is suppose to be able to be opened up to flow like the "outta the box" EDELBROCK. Lastly BIG MOUTH by TPIS is like $500 so beware.

TPIS is $475. They charge you about $125 for the porting that they put into their manifold. I guess it depends on if you think their professional porter is worth $125 / hour !

Really? I'm a junior at West Genny now. Small world -=)

Anyway, thanks for the info. I'll see what prices for getting the stock intake ported are.

According to AS&M, their siamesed runners are designed only for heavily modded 350-383+ engines where upper rpm power is the goal. You will lose alot of low end power on a lesser moddified engine. AS&M suggests their large tube runners for all other apllications. The siamesed runners are also about $500!! The large tubes are $395.

Then you have to ask yourself if the AS&M large tube runners are worth $150 more than the Edelbrock runners. You can get the Edelbrock Hi-Flo "kit" which includes both the base and the runners for about $600. You'd pay $750 to get the Edelbrock base and AS&M runners.

If cost is your concern, buy the SLP runners and take the dividers out half way down. That will give you nearly the same port design as the AS&M's SS with half the cost.
That is what I did to mine. I'll be bolting them on during Christmas break along with a ported factory base and a CC cam.

I think they look better too

With all the money it costs to buy a new base, runners, TB and port your plenum, you could save a little more and just buy a Mini Ram and it would get you SOOOOO much more if it can be matched with the correct heads and cam. Just my 2 cents.

I just want through this. I bought the Edelbrock manifoid and runners from carpartsonsale.com for $615 shipped. The runners measure 1.7" in most places. The base needs a lot of port work.
