looking for some 3rd gens....

Hey guys (and girls),
At present I have a 1996 Z28 M6. I love the car, the performance is awesome. But, it lacks the bad-*** effect you get from a killer 3rd gen. So....
I am looking for a 1991-1992 Camaro Z28. I would like to know some specs for these cars, such as what engines came with what? I REALLY want an L98, was that available in 91-92? And those were hardtops, right? Also, what should I look for as far as problems with these cars.
I used to own a 91 Firebird TBI 305, but the 350 car is a whole new animal. Sorry if I may sound misinformed about these cars, but I really am. So if someone could help me out with this, or link me to a site with some info, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks much in advance.

The L98 was available in the F-body from '87 to '92. The Firebird version was worth 235 hp and 340 ft-lb, but the Camaro was slightly better. Unfortunatly, these were only available with the 700R4 auto four speed, but are worth mid-to-low 14 sec quarter miles anyway. I dont know of any specific problems associated with the TPI 350. Hope you find what your lookin for.

Dusty, you came to the right place. Great choice of years, these tend to be the fastest of the bunch. As for Camaros from what I understand in 91/92 you could not get a T-top L98 combo. You could get a G92 305 with Ts though, which was rated at what like 5-10 less HP but has a 5-speed. I would stick with looking for an L98/auto. You could not get a 5-speed/L98 as you may know. What you want to look out for is front end work that may be needed, especially ball joints. The heater cores tend to go, but that is really not a big deal. Other than that, there are really no problems with these cars except for the fact that they squeal and rattle, showing their age. A set of subframe connectors helps out. The L98 I believe would come with 3.23 rear gears. You may have been able to get a 2.73, but don't quote me on that. It is also speed density instead of the pesky MAF, which makes it cheaper to fix, but may be more tempermental to mods therefore needed different PROMs. All depends on the individual car though. A for numbers, I believe they may have had 245hp and 330-350 ft/lbs of torque. These numbers on a stock L98 usually yield times equal to that of an LT1. Better 60s, but weaker up top because of the rpm limiting intake set up. Easy to mod, fun to drive, and great to look at. Good luck!!

Thanks guys. Those were exactly the kind of responses I was looking for. How about dyno numbers on a stock L98?
