HELP, TPS doesnt seem right.

I keep reading about adjusting the TPS to 0.54 volts etc.
Heres the problem.
a) My TPS does not have slots where the screws go through and is therefore not adjustable. With the IAC set right, the TPS voltage is around 0.72 volts.

b) As I open the throttle, the TPS voltage slowly and smoothly increases, but only to 2.8 volts.

Question.
Do I have the right TPS, and do these figures sound right.

Any help appreciated, this is driving me nuts.

Cheers

Richard

UPDATE!!!!!!

I have 0.54 at idle, and 4.16 at WOT.
I think the min idle speed may be too low, but the IAC doesnt seem to have any problems adjusting it.
Seems to be working OK, should I leave it alone?

No slots in the TPS housing? Never heard of that (at least for thirdgens). Sounds to me like you have the wrong TPS on the throttle body. 2.8 volts at WOT is way low. You should be between 4.5 and 4.9 volts. If you go over 4.9 you get a SES code.......21 I believe.

According to my '86 service manual the TPS voltage should read .54V +/-.075V The IAC has no effect on the TPS....only your idle speed.

By all means, if the TPS is still reading what you wrote (.54 idle, 4.16 WOT) LEAVE IT ALONE! The IAC has not affect on the TPS so if you still need to set the IAC then you should do so....there's an article in the tech section here on thirdgen.org on how to set your IAC!! But leave the TPS alone if you readings are ok!! Contrary to the previous post, the TPS WOT voltage should be between 4 and 4.5 volts for optimal performance! I've heard some people say that their car runs better when the WOT voltage is closer to 4 than 4.5!!

Thanks for the replies all, after the road test / drive to work this morning, the throttle response is much better, now if I can figure out why my torque converter wont lock up all of a sudden, I would feel much better.

Cheers
