CA Smog Pump 1990 5.0 TPI

I want to eliminate the smog pump and all the emmission crap. How or what do I replace the smog pump with so the belt will still fit? It doesn't appear that I can rerout the belt because it looks like it will rub.

FWIW, the smog pump only draws around 1 hp to operate. If you are removing it because it "hurts performance," there are other things that could go first.

Re: CA Smog Pump 1990 5.0 TPI

It doesn't take much power, er draw power from the engine to spin that pump. A/C and other accesories that really give resistance hurt performance more. I wouldn't worry about getting the delete pulley unless you really want to. I mean it won't hurt, but if you need to smog and keep it legal, might as well leave it in place. It's the least of your worries.

On a side note though, if it is old, replace it while you can. I had mine sieze up on my and fry my belt once, and I know it's happened to others here too.

If you aren't running emissions then remove the pump, sure its not much, but every pound saved, and every bit of hp counts.

You won't notice a gain really.
