tps voltage ?

I have installed 3 new tps sensors on my 87 tpi 5spd trans am and none of them will go over 3.8 volts at wot? Is this a big deal these are new GM parts not generic parts store junk!

Are you checking this by mashing the pedal, or by moving the lever by hand. If by hand, I don't know, but if by pedal, maybe its not traveling all the way. Look inside and see if the TB blades move all the way.

ya i was moving the lever by hand. even if i take the tps off the t-body and move it to the end of its travel i will only get aprox. 3.8 volts. in order to get this the highest reading at wot it makes the voltage high at idle aprox. 1.5volts.

thanks dennis

I found that if I just measured the voltage by opening the TB by hand AND having the engine off, I am unable to hit over 4.0 volts.

But if the engine is on, have a scan tool and just boot it, I get 4.21 volts.

But this is all irrelevant. The Power Enrichment mode (that is what it is referred to in the ecm) can all be controlled intereally in the eprom. You can select at what % TPS Power Enrichment occurs. Normally it is around 70%. So as long as the ecm detects 70% TPS, it WILL go into Power Enrichment, which is what we refer to as WOT.

A more important thing to be concerned out is how wide the blades open up. If the blades do not fully open up, you sill not get the full air flow and thus less than maximum power potential.

But don't get all bent aobut the TPS voltage. Be concerned about the %TPS and at what level your PE kicks in (and don't forget those blades).
