EGR Questions & code 34 question

Ok i have a 5.0 T.P.I. well I started it up this morning and when i put the car in gear and let go of the clutch as soon as i hit the gas the car would cut out. So i stped on it more then the ses light came on. Well got to a stop and steped on the gas, the engine just died. Turned it on agian while saying a few choice words and it started right up and ran like nothing ever happend. I pulled a code 34 for the maf. I did change the maf burn off and power relays a month ago. I was told either the maf is working or its dead no such thing as semi working is this true? Could something else be fooling my computer to throw the wrong code? What would cause my car to act like that?

EGR question well i get crap mpg so i thought it might be my egr. JUst a quick free test with vaccume pump dosnt hurt to look right? Anyway I found out my air lines were hooked up wrong to the egr silenoid. THe throttle bodie was hooked up to the back fitting and the egr was hooked up to the front fitting. ok with the key turned on i hooked up the vacume gauge and pumped it up to 15 but it would bleed off until it hit 5. when i turn the car off it bleeds off completley. Is this a wrong way to test it?
Also would the silenoid being hooked up wrong cause anything to the car or my mpg? Thanks everyone in advance.
