Tuning?'s

I finished my cam swap on my 5.0 this weekend I put in the summit TPI cam 204\214@.050 420\442 lifters, pushrods, springs, rockers and double roller chain. Everything was a breeze with the swap now I need to tune it. It has a bit of lope to it is that normal for a cam with these durations and lift. I set timing to 8deg and it seems like it and can probably use more but how far do I go. I have my friends auto xray and he told me to watch the knock counts when they begin to climb back off two deg. is that true? Right now the car only retards about 2 deg. if I am going up a steep hill otherwise they dont move. It has more power and better responce than it did before the swap but really can't tell too much since I am still taking it easy till I am sure it is right. Any info you can help me with on tuning after the swap would be appreciated.

is your car an automatic?if yes the computer retards the ignition timing automatically when shifting gears ie 1 to 2 to 3.if the xray said it was pulling out timing at idle go with 6 degrees first to be sure that's base for an auto car you might find it may need less timing than before try 6 first and run 92 or 94 octane for good measure
