coolant temp sensor

got a minor problem with my 90 speed density 350 tpi. it starts right up and runs like butter, but acts funny when warming up. its cold out now, so it'll idle at 1200-1500 at first. of course it will drop down as it warms up, but when it gets to about 800rpm, it starts missin a little, and it runs funny for a few seconds, then it revs back up to about 1200, and drops back down to about 800, and idles fine. drives beautiful, no hesitation, no misses, idles good in drive, very responsive as well. i was thinking it was this sensor b/c it only happens when warming up. my alternator isn't functioning properly, b/c when i load it up at idle, it goes down to 12.2 volts.tried replacing that and the bat, no difference. ive also heard that the wire goin from the alternator to the bat goes bad too. Are these symptoms of a bad alt or alt wire, or of a bad coolant sensor?
any feedback is appreciated. hope everyone had a good thanksgining.

Re: coolant temp sensor

okay forget all the jibberish bullshit about the alternator, and ****. i realize i went a little off topic, and i should be doing things one at a time.its not much of an issue, b/c its fine when hot, but does anyone think that the slight miss for a few seconds could be due to a messed up temperature sensor?

Re: coolant temp sensor

I'm not an expert on this stuff, but i think its a possibility it could be the CTS. the injectors might need cleaning or clean the IAC. then, check EACH injector and see what ohms each is. (i think its best to test them hot) I think they are supposed to be between 10-14 ohms. i think anything less than that means you have a bad injector. if you have one bad injector, once the car is warmed up, it shuts down all the injectors and causes the car to stall and normally doesn't crank back up until the car is cooled down. check your distributor module and see if its any good. have it taken out and take it to O'Reillys or some place like that and have them test it back to back about 5 or more times. if thats the problem, after they have tested it over and over, it warms up and the test will start to fail everytime. if thats good, check the rest of the distributor parts. but you haven't had problems that bad yet have ya? lol i had that problem...took forever to figure out what the hell was going on. its one thing after another with these cars, but its worth it. lemme know how everything goes and I'm gonna think on it and see if anything else could be causing that. good luck!

Re: coolant temp sensor

ive got a new fuel pump and injectors in the car, they tested at 12 ohms when ice cold, also replaced the ignition module, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, msd box, and blaster gm coil, so ive got fuel and fire. i didn't use a scanner to set the tps, i just kind of messed with it and it drives beautifully, idles good too. t-body is clean, ill look into cleaning the IAC. you did mean the temp sensor when you said CTS, rite? and cleaning the iac is easy, right? thanx man

Re: coolant temp sensor

yeah i meant temp sensor when i was talking about the CTS. and the IAC, when you pull it out on the tip there could be buildup. I sprayed WD40 on it and up inside where the IAC plugs in to get the buildup out (carbon buildup i think) btw....lol...surprize! in refernce to "thanx man" - im not a dude. im a normal chick (with all the correct body parts, lol) a chick that just loves muscle cars. lol i know, i know...weird having a chick up on here huh?

Re: coolant temp sensor

she's runnin good, shes been asleep in the garage b/c it snowed here in NY, i didnt do the temp sensor yet. i did however do new msd wires, the kind that you crimp to your own length, and that made the car much better. i had a slight miss, that was barely noticeable, and since i did the wires, the problem that i described above has gone away abit. but like i said, ill prob just leave it until it becomes a real issue
