rockers

l've been hearing and seeing a lot about upgrading the rockers in TPI motors and have taken it into consideration. lve been thinking pulling the originals and put in a nice set of 1.6's would this work? (can anyone reccomend a decent rocker they've had experience with?) changing the pushrods, springs, and lifters is something lm also considering, lm thinking about either going with crane or compucam anyone have any better suggestions? with all of these mods will l feel the difference in the seat of my pants do you think? will my car have a bit more of a choppy/rough idle? can l get more out of my cam by these mods?

thanks a lot

Put a ZZ4 cam in it. They are way cheaper,(about $170 from Jim Pace) have excelent lift and very ideal duration for the long tube TPI and restrictive exhaust and/or exhaust port. You will want to replace your valve springs also, I dont think stock springs will handle the lift of the ZZ4, amd they are probably a little soggy anyway. As for the rockers I would use COMP MAGNUM roller tips. They are Quiet, Cheap, and extremely well made. BEWARE though, your engine might use self aligning rockers. You can Identify these by seeing if the rocker tips have little dimples that stick down on each side of the valve stem. If you need self aligning rockers the Magnums are out. Comp does not have a model of these that are self aligning that I am aware of. Now you will be stuck to the special full roller rockers that (I think) Crane sells. They are expensive, but will sit under a stock center bolt valve cover. If you use the ZZ4 cam, you might want to stick to 1.5 ratio rockers because the ZZ4 has .474/.510 lift with 1.5 ratios. 1.6 ratio might be a litte much.

am l going to run into a ton of trouble replacing the cam though? computer problems? the fact that the intake it based off of a speed density MAP sensor? l dont care about emissions, but a few other questions that l have are: did you install the cam and valve train yourself and how long did it take? and second if you didnt, how much did it cost you to have it done?
