Getting the Motor to Start
Long story short, pulled the cam and heads from my original LB9 motor and put them on a new L04 long block. The ECM in the car is for the LB9 motor.
The engine turns over, but will not fire. I have spark, there is fuel on the plugs. I have tried to set it to TDC.
I ran another test, where I crank the motor and stop it right after cylinder 2 sparks, the timing mark is coming up the timing tab.
A couple of caveats, there is a vacuum located on the intake manifold, in the middle of the manifold. I am not sure where this vacuum plugs into. I honestly do not remember there being a hose on it.
The knock sensor is not hooked up.
I am not ruling out a timing issue. But felt pretty confident that it is at least close enough to fire.
I have a few weeks before race season starts, but would like to get it running so I can test a little before.
Any thoughts?

Re: Getting the Motor to Start
double check timing, timing mark on 0* rotor button should be on #1.if the vacuum hole is on the drivers side its prob. for pcv valve that goes in valve cover.hook the knock sensor up too, double check all your grounds on the back of heads,be sure you didnt miss any(easy to do) if its speed density it wont run without map plugged in.if its getting fuel and spark, and not cranking it sounds like a timing prob.also could be fuel press. to low.hope this helps ,later jimmy

Re: Getting the Motor to Start
Just to follow up, the timing was 180 degrees off. I pulled the valve cover and watched the valves for cylinder one while rotating the engine by hand.
Once I was sure it was tdc, I pulled the distributor and rotated it. The car fired up. But it would not idle under 2000 rpm. After a day or so I found a leak at the base of the right side of the TPI plenum. Turns out I swapped the left and right side gaskets while assembling the TPI.
Torn the TPI apart and swapped the gaskets and now it runs just fine. Will be taking it to the dyno in the next few weeks for certification. Hopefully the new motor combination project will get me back to the CMC power limits.

good deal, sometimes it pays to just double check yourself .i know how it is when you put all that work in it and it wont start.weve all done it at one time or another.post up the dyno #s.ill be looking for them good luck, later jimmy
