It can be greased, but requires a special tool to do it. If you are loosing grease chances are the cable is leaking, and will start to make noise agian. Just get a new cable and save the cost of greasing it.
I had mine greased for $30 and it was quiet for a whole 2 days. Then i picked up a new one from the dealership for like $40 i think. The new cables don't need grease for a long time also.

I didn't use a special tool at all to grease mine. My dad had some MOPAR speedometer cable lube. I just took out the cable through the gauge cluster (had to detach it from the other end, too, of course) and put lubricant all up and down the cable. Hasn't squeeqed since. It does bounce, but that is because my cable is bad anyways. No noise though. Just get some lube and try it. If it doesn't work, get a new cable.

I deal mostly with 87 - 92 & newer Formulas & T/A's, they use an electronic Speedometer, (No cable), I assumed the Camaro would be the same. Did they used a cable later than the Firebirds???

Yeah, some (I don't know if all) of the 87-89 Camaros have cable-driven speedos. I know they all went electronic on 90 with the new gauge display. Anyone have info to back this up?
